Vancouver Idle No More march marks passing of Elijah Harper

Idle No More

See video

Hundreds of people marched down Commercial Drive in Vancouver on Monday May 20 as Idle No More groups across the country commemorated the passing of Elijah Harper.

Elijah Harper achieved national fame in 1990 by holding an eagle feather as he stood in the Manitoba legislature and refused to support the Meech Lake accord, effectively blocking the constitutional amendment package. Harper protested that the proposed accord was negotiated without the input of Canada's aboriginal peoples.

Video includes hiphop artist JB the First Lady, and Rueben George - a member of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation and a prominent opponent of the Kinder Morgan tarsands pipeline expansion proposal.
