Leading Local and Global Mining and Fossil Fuel Extraction Activists Available for Interviews

State of Extraction conference - Vancouver, BC

by Brad Hornick

What: State of Extraction conference
When: March 27-29, 2015
Where: Simon Fraser University, Downtown Campus

The Simon Fraser University Institute for the Humanities is hosting a conference called the "State of Extraction" from March 27 to 29, and is inviting media to interview speakers.

Seventy-five percent of the world's mining companies are based in Canada – the majority of head offices are in Vancouver. This conference is the first of its kind that considers the social and environmental impacts of Canadian-led fossil fuel and rare earth metals extraction globally.

The conference brings together indigenous leadership, academics, artists and public intellectuals from a variety of disciplines, activists engaged in various struggles related to resource extraction (including oil, gas, coal and rare earth metals), representatives of affected communities from the global north and south.

A full list of speakers is available here: http://stateofextraction.org/category/presenters

The schedule for the conference is here: http://stateofextraction.org/schedule

Many of the speakers and organizers of the conference will be available for interviews just prior, during and following the conference. If you would like to arrange an interview with presenters or conference organizers, please call or email our media contact.
