Cooperatives

Over the last month, VMC contributors have been out and about in Vancouver, producing coverage and analysis of struggles in the city (and beyond). Our coverage over the past month includes stories on Prison Justice Day, and aboycott Arizona action at the Lady Gaga concert in Vancouver, a response to theParliamentary tar sands report by Andrew Nikiforuk, and an update from Wet'suwet'en territory, where theLikhts'amsiyu Clan issued a tresspass notice to Enbridge. We also featured coverage of solidarity actions in support of the Tamil migrants who arrived aboard the MV Sun Sea, including a brief history of anti-migrant hysteria in Canada, and a blog post about Canada's shameful behaviour with regards to migrants.

The VMC documented a demonstration against Pacific Rim mining company's exploits in El Salvador, and provided photos and a video of the information picket against Israeli shipping company Zim at Deltaport. To keep readers up to date about the City Hall back story on gentrification, we ran a piece critiquing the short term incentive for rental program, a detailed piece about redevelopment at Grandview Park, and another on the upcoming battle for Britannia. We also released of two sets of documents pertaining to the Integrated Security Unit's preparations before the 2010 Olympics, one set deals with the ISU's tracking of an individual, the other deals with the ISU's budget and inter-agency agreements. The VMC also featured the extensive educational zine Can't Stop Kaos: A brief history of the black bloc. Among our most commented posts were coverage of and missives from people organizing to defend Grandview Park, including this emergency call out, and this short video clip of an action that saw the fence around the park torn down

Out this fortnight is a full colour version of Balaclava!, our broadsheet. If you'd like to help with distribution, please email vmc at mediacoop dot ca.

None of this would be possible without the help of our volunteer collective members, or without the support of our sustaining members. If you'd like to drop by a VMC collective meeting, there is one tomorrow (Wednesday, September 8) at Spartacus Books, 684 East Hastings Street at 6.30pm. If you can't come out to meetings, you can always create an account and post your own coverage to the VMC. If you've got a few bucks to spare, consider donating to the VMC, or becoming a sustaining member

Finally, you can catch the VMC at the Victoria Anarchist Bookfair this weekend, where we'll be sharing a table with our friends at Submedia.tv. We'll also be out for the Rap for Freedom fundraiser in Vancouver on September 15. There's always new events posted in our events listing, so check back often!

Onwards!
