Yo Dawg, I heard you like ATIP requests

So I wrote a request about my request, so you can read about this request while you read my other request! At the suggestion of Joseph Jones, fellow ORN member and a contributor to the Vancouver Media Coop, I sent the request to find the discussions of who they talked to when they were processing my original request, which you can read about here and here. Here's what I found out:

There was an additional page referring to Section 19 of the Privacy Act, which states:

19. (1) Subject to subsection (2), the head of a government institution shall refuse to disclose any personal information requested under subsection 12(1) that was obtained in confidence from (a) the government of a foreign state or an institution thereof; (b) an international organization of states or an institution thereof; (c) the government of a province or an institution thereof; (d) a municipal or regional government established by or pursuant to an Act of the legislature of a province or an institution of such a government; (e) the council, as defined in the Westbank First Nation Self-Government Agreement given effect by the Westbank First Nation Self-Government Act; or (f) the council of a participating First Nation as defined in subsection 2(1) of the First Nations Jurisdiction over Education in British Columbia Act. Where disclosure authorized (2) The head of a government institution may disclose any personal information requested under subsection 12(1) that was obtained from any government, organization or institution described in subsection (1) if the government, organization or institution from which the information was obtained (a) consents to the disclosure; or (b) makes the information public.

Now, I have no idea which regional government, or which institution of a regional government would want my information, but I think I'll just follow common sense, and FOI the Vancouver Police Department and see what information they have on me. Perhaps I'll FOI the SkyPigs as well.

Anyway, when you look at the document itself, there are page numbers in the bottom right corner. Now, if you look at the original release, these numbers aren't sequential.

Anyway, there's discussion about which names they need to redact, including a single word from a phrase on Page 2 of the original document. They redacted the phrase, but when you look on actual page two, the phrase is this:

During [redacted] internet checks

OK, so why was this redacted? I'm tempted to use the Privacy Act to request which font they were using and trying to calculate what the hell the word is. Guesses include random and routine. There are other redacted info, including the Page 14, as well as others. There's also a discussion about whether to redact the names of Jerilee Valenzuela and Corene Rathgeber, and decide there is no compelling reasons to redact their names.

Given the fact that I can use Google and "run an Internet", as can anyone else, combined with the fact that unlike the RCMP officers, where it's harder to find info, finding info on the civllians is easy! Of course, some police officers just put themselves right out there! I might be wrong, but this man may be a cop

The documents definitely add context to the documents. In addition to all of this, there are also the next batch of requests. I sent request to the various departments:

• RCMP - What is the IIF? - Turns out that Sgt. Swim didn't know either. Haven't heard anything since I requested the information.
• RCMP - Information on Anarchist Activity in BC - Turns out you can't just request that. Named a few publicly known groups
• RCMP - Information on ORN, APC and no2010.com - Got a call about this where they stated that there were over 1600 hits for ORN, 1000 for APC, and 500 for no2010.com.
• Industry Canada - Got the response regarding the shutdown of Safe Assembly Area radio.
• CBSA - CBSA demands dates and ports. Need to figure out which ports I want data from

I do intend to do a metarequest on CSIS, because I want to see whether or not they did anything, and I do plan to ATIP CSIS about their role in the V2010ISU. Based on the lack of cohesion between the various parties in the V2010ISU, I think that's a good idea. It'd be good to have people to work on this, since it's a time-consuming task.
