3rd attack on rabbit sanctuary leaves rescue community reeling - Coombs, BC

Intruders stomp 20 rabbits to death in vicious attack on relocated UVic rabbits in Coombs, BC

For immediate release - July 11, 2011.  Coombs, BC  The third attack on the relocated UVic rabbits in a Coombs, BC sanctuary shows a dark side to the bucolic rural community on Vancouver Island.  There is truly something amiss in this west coast community, one in which several young women have been murdered sadisticly in recent years.
 
Two previous attacks on the rabbits were carried out by Barb Smith, a retired lawyer who in the first incident shot a group of over 20 escaped rabbits grazing beside their pen, and in the second incident trespassed on sanctuary land and set her dog on the rabbits.  The dog subsequently ripped several rabbits to pieces and terrorized the rest.  Smith was investigated by the Law Society of BC for her misdeeds.
 
In this third most recent incident an intruder or intruders climbed over the fence to the sanctuary and broke into cages and rampaged around the pens stomping the rabbits to death.  Sanctuary founder and EARS representative Susan Vickery came in to a scene of "blood and broken bodies everywhere" the next morning when she came to feed the rabbits.
 
"Cages were ripped open and bodies splayed on the grass where they were stomped to death...some had their heads smashed and others had their guts ruptured" she said.  "The little ones who couldn't escape were chased into the corners of the barn and crushed...the ones that hid under a carrier top were smashed down in the carrier."
 
Surveillance equipment and an alarm system have been installed at the sanctuary and the rabbits will have someone on the ground 24/7 from now on.

Sickening reprobates

This sort of cruelty is stomach churning, but I couldn't feel the same pity for the freakishly evil loser(s) that did this. The perpetrator(s), if/when found, would best be served their just deserts under a slowly advancing steam roller. If there were no witnesses, the community can only hope that someone close to them noticed blood drenched boots and clothing.

Coombs Rabbits

Another example of why I can't stand Roslyn Cassels - she is a liar.                                                                  There have not been three attacks on the rabbit sanctuary - there has been one.
 
RC says that Barbara Smith shot the escaped rabbits who were grazing beside their pen - not!  They were in her pasture, where many of them remained for weeks because there weren't fences, and the fences that were there were inadequate.
 
Barb Smith's dog killed one rabbit - now RC says several.  Again, the dog would not have had access to any of the rabbits had they been safely contained.
 
RC is co-adminstrator of a Facebook site called "Barbara Smith Murdered Bunnies and Should Be Brought to Justice - it is a highly inflammatory site, which posted Barbara Smith's address, phone #, e-mail address, and professional affiliations.  Some of the members should have been banned for the violence they advocated to be done to Barb Smith.
 
Barb Smith's husband recently died, and his passing was greeted with joy on this hateful site.  I posted the truth about what I saw and what I thought and Roslyn Cassells had me banned from the site, because she did not want the truth - she wants her lies and exaggerations to prevail.  She is the queen of agit-prop, and while agit-prop can be useful, it should remain truthful.  Apparently RC does not concern herself with the truth, which is why I have stated elsewhere that in my opinion RC is not to be trusted on any issue.

Coombs rabbit attack

Irregardless of the opinions of RC's exaggerations, or not, he cruel deeds EXECUTED are SICK, and I agree that punishments should be severe when this type of social illness occurs. How about stomping on the heads of the murderers with something as big as their own heads? Canada desperately needs tougher laws to protect animals- is there anyone out there who would argue that what was done was not infinitely cruel?!
Canada, I challenge you to lead the way in setting stronger penalties against those who are cruel to animals, strong enough to ACTUALLY deter them!
