ABBOTSFORD: Four days before Christmas and there's no room for the homeless in Abbotsford. The City followed through on its crusade to dismantle a tent village on an unused parking lot beside Jubillee Park yesterday.

Belongings were packed up for transport by City Parks vechicles to a local Salvation Army where they say they will be stored until their owners want them.  A group of homeless people have been camping at the site since October.

Local police were out in force to make sure that the last half dozen campers left following a 4pm deadline set by court order. The judge reportedly agreed to the order on City promises that all the homeless would be housed, a pledge those at the site called ``bullshit.``  While a few are reported to have found spaces in local shelters, the rest said they plan to stick together and set up a new camp ``somewhere in the bush`` outside of town. 

The City of Abbotsford has waged a relentless campaign against the homeless that has included city crews dumping chicken manure on one campsite, police slashing tents at another and trespass and no occupation notices issued through the courts.
