COAST SALISH TERRITORY - One year ago today, Quesnel Lake residents and nearby communities were eagerly anticipating one of the largest Sockeye salmon returns in recent history. What they got instead was the largest single mine waste spill in Canadian history.

On the anniversary of the tailings pond breach at the Mount Polley Mine, activists in Vancouver gathered in front of Imperial Metals in solidarity with protesters in Likely, BC. People spoke, sang, drummed and handed out information on the Mount Polley spill.

Despite concerns from the T’exelc and Xatsull First Nations, the provincial government is allowing the Mt. Polley mine to reopen.
