Pancakes Not Pipelines Feeds Resistance: Skwomesh Action forms to defend Salish Sea and Mother Earth

See video

On January 26 2014, Skwomesh Action hosted their first large public event. Pancakes Not Pipelines brought hundreds of supporters together to support Indigenous resistance to tar sands and fracking pipelines at a local and provincial level. The pancake brunch included guest speakers including Mi’kmaq Warrior Society members involved in the blockade of SWN Resources Canada fracking gas equipment in Elsipogtog. Cultural performances included the Coast Salish Dance Group Children of Takaya, shown at the end of this video.

The event raised funds to support the Unist’ot’en Camp and Skwomesh Action’s organizing efforts.

Unist’ot’en Camp:
The Unist'ot'en Camp is a resistance community whose purpose is to protect sovereign Wet'suwet'en territory from several proposed pipelines from the Tar Sands Gigaproject and shale gas from Hydraulic Fracturing Projects in the Peace River Region.

Skwomesh Action:
Skwomesh Action was formed in early 2014 to build an organized resistance to pipeline and increased tanker projects that threaten the Salish Sea. The group’s members are Sḵwx̱wú7mesh-ulh Stémexw (Squamish People) from Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Squamish Valley, and Sunshine Coast.

All Success be with You

I wish you and all First Nations People all success in preventing Enbridge and Shell from building pipelines through your territories. To even propose to have tankers carry bitumen through Caamano Sound and on to Douglas Channel is lunacy and an insult to all the people who live in the North Coast. The Enbridge proposal shows a complete disrespect for nature, the ecology and the environment.

Even Enbridge themselves admit there will be an average of 1 tanker spill per year. They submited to the NEB a risk assessment of .5%. With 200 tankers per year that equates to 1 tanker spill per year. Neither Enbridge nor Harper cares about "a few aboriginals" on the coast just as they don't care about the Athabasca Chipewyan band living in Northern Alberta.

These projects depict the level of greed inherent in the Harper administration and the companies involved with the oilsands. They claim it is all for jobs and prosperity. That is the biggest lie of past 10 years in Canada. With Harper, Canada has fewer jobs and on average less pay jobs than before he took over. Since Harper, Canada has plumeted deeper into debt.

The Harper Scam.

The Harper scam has landed Canada at the bottom of the list on several important values    topics.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Here is but one of his gifts to all Canadians.
