Today was another Sunday in solitary confinement for Bradley Manning, the youth who is alleged to have leaked the Collateral Murder footage, the Afghan War Logs, and over 250,000 U.S. diplomatic cables to Wikileaks. But for his supporters, this weekend marked an international effort to bring attention to his plight, and demand that he be freed. In Vancouver, two dozen people gathered under the cool shade of the U.S. consulate on Sunday morning to show their support for Manning.
Organizers of today's gathering were especially concerned about the impacts of solitary confinement. Though he has two charges against him, he has never been convicted of either. Manning has been kept in isolation in a windowless cell 23 hours a day, say his supporters, and since March 2nd has been forced to strip naked every morning for roll call.
